Himachal Pradesh is going through the toughest monsoon crisis that led to 157 people death, and total Rs 886 crores infrastructure damaged till 9 August. Heavy rains, landslides and flooding like situation have disrupted the roads, power supply, and water infrastructure in many districts, while government is continuously rescuing and doing restoration work.

Himachal Pradesh faced its worst monsoon crisis by August 9th, resulting in 157 deaths and Rs 886 crore in damages, with disrupted roads, power, and water infrastructure impacting districts like Chamba, Kangra, and Kullu.

According the latest data given by state government, 157 people have lost their lives in heavy rain from 30 June to 9 August, while 257 have got injured with 2 person still missing.

In total 157 deaths, 68 were directly linked to natural incidents like landslide, drowning, snake bites and falls. While another 89 people were died in road accidents due to flood like situation.

Chamba has recorded highest number of death with 24 people lost their life, following 21 in Kangra and Kullu each. Shimla also reported 20 deaths, while Lahaul and Spiti registered 18 deaths.

Roads, Power And Water Supply Hit

The continuous rainfall has given major disruption to transport essential services. The latest analysis stated that the government has put 106 roads out of operation. Kullu has reported around 40 roads blocked across Kullu, Banjar, Anni and Nirmand, while Mandi has 38 closures. While nine roads itself are blocked in Shimla.

Even the power infrastructure has been affected with around 66 Distribution Transformer Regions are out of service for now. Mandi alone has around 63, 19 water supply schemes have also been disrupted with 12 in Shimla only.

Rs 886 Crore Damage Reported

The Himachal Pradesh government has estimated the damage about Rs 886 crore. The Public Work Department had the most loss with Rs 66,279.1 lakh. While Jal Shakti Vibhag has reported Rs 20,389.51 lakh.

Even Private property has suffered a huge loss, more than 880 houses, shops, catle sheds and other structures have been damaged with 64 totally destroyed.

Rescue And Restoration Continue

The monsoon has killed around 201 animals and birds, with around Rs 33.605 lakh. While the train is still continuing in parts of Himachal, the government has remained focus on clearing roads, restoring electricity and repairing water infrastructure. This situation is actually disastrous for hill station areas where it will be difficult to pass essential services and emergency assistance.
