As Hyderabad continues to grow into a major business and technology hub, residents are urging authorities to improve Metro connectivity by extending train operating hours. While demands for expanding the Metro network continue, commuters say extending the last train timing has become an equally urgent requirement for thousands of daily passengers.

Hyderabad residents are urging authorities to extend Metro operating hours from 11 pm to 12:30 am, providing a safer and more affordable transport option for late-night travellers arriving at railway stations and bus terminals.

Late-Night Travellers Face Transport Challenges

At present, Hyderabad Metro services end at 11 pm, leaving passengers arriving in the city on late-night trains and buses without Metro connectivity. Many travellers reaching Hyderabad after this time are forced to depend on autos and cabs, often paying significantly higher fares to reach their destinations.

Several commuters have also raised concerns over safety while travelling late at night, saying the absence of Metro services limits affordable and secure transport options.

Demand For Metro Services Till 12.30 AM

Residents have written to both the Central and State governments requesting that Metro operations be extended from 5 am to 12.30 am. They believe Hyderabad should follow the example of metro systems in cities such as Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai, where services continue until around 11.30 pm or even later on certain corridors.

According to commuters, extending operating hours would better serve the city’s growing population and match Hyderabad’s status as a rapidly expanding global city.

Railway Stations And Bus Terminals Would Benefit

Passengers say longer Metro services would be particularly helpful for those travelling through major transport hubs, including Secunderabad railway station, Nampally railway station, Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) and Jubilee Bus Station (JBS).

With improved late-night connectivity, travellers arriving from different parts of the country would have a reliable public transport option to continue their journey across the city.

Affordable And Safer Alternative

Commuters argue that extending Metro timings would allow thousands of passengers to reach destinations close to their homes at fares ranging from ₹6 to ₹70. They believe this would reduce dependence on costly late-night transport services while offering a safer and more convenient travel option.

Residents continue to hope that Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) and L&T Metro Rail officials will consider the proposal as the city’s public transport needs continue to grow.
