In an unprecedented turn, senior representatives of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) met Union Minister J.P. Nadda on Monday and submitted their key demands. The meeting took place on the first day of the Monsoon Session, as thousands of protesters gathered in Delhi for the ‘Chalo Sansad’ march.

On July 20, CJP delegates met Union Minister J.P. Nadda while Delhi Police dispersed the CJP’s unauthorised ‘Chalo Sansad’ march near Jantar Mantar using lathicharge and tear gas, implementing Section 163 BNSS prohibitory orders.

Delhi Police said no permission had been sought for the march. As a result, prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were imposed across parts of New Delhi, with Jantar Mantar remaining the designated protest site. Police stopped the procession at multiple locations and used lathicharge and tear gas to disperse the crowd after protesters attempted to move forward.

Meanwhile, as the government’s response to the demands is awaited, activist Sonam Wangchuk, in a written letter, said he would continue his hunger strike until the youth are allowed to meet Members of Parliament inside Parliament or he is permitted to meet them at Safdarjung Hospital, where he is currently admitted.

Here are some of the key moments from July 20 that you should not miss:
