PM Narendra Modi in his Independence Day Speech at Red Fort while addressing the nation on 80th Independence Day announced free online coaching for competitive exams, saying that the government has planned to reduce financial pressure of coaching classes on poor and middle-class families. This announcement came at the time youth is protesting against irregularities and rising cost of exam preparation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced free online coaching for competitive exams during his Independence Day address, aiming to reduce the financial burden on poor and middle-class families by leveraging India’s digital infrastructure.
PM Modi Announces Free Online Coaching
PM Modi said these intense competition around the coaching centres has made a serious major financial burden on middle-class families. He said many parents are scared to send their children to coaching institutes because if they don’t send them to coaching institutes their children will fall behind.
“The competition surrounding coaching classes has become a huge burden for middle-class families. Every parent feels that if they do not send their child to a coaching centre, they are somehow falling behind or do not belong to a respectable family,” Modi said.
He said the government aim to help the families who spend thousand of crores on coaching and give access to preparation resources.
Digital Platform to Support Competitive Exam Aspirants
PM Modi mentioned that this initiative will provide free online coaching for various competition examinations. He also highlighted that India already has the digital push and educational talent that will support the programme.
“Therefore, we have decided to provide free online coaching for various competitive examinations for our youth,” he said. “We have digital public infrastructure, and we have highly talented teachers and educators.”
This initiative is aim to make exam preparation more easy and accessible, mainly for students who can’t afford expensive private coaching.
Announcement Comes Amid Exam Concerns
The announcement came at the time after youth-led protests in many parts of India over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. The CJP protest at Jantar Mantar was the lead protest that led to the whole nation and led to education minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.
For many students, coaching has been an important part of preparing high competitive government exams and entrance exams. The high cost of classroom coaching, study material, accommodation and travel can add more financial burden to families.
