India strongly condemns the attack on the Indian flagged commercial vessel which was sunk in the Red Sea after being hit by an explosives-laden boat off the coast of Yemen’s western city, with all 14 crew members rescued.

The vessel, M/SV Faize Noore Oliya, was carrying 13 Indians and one Yemeni when it was targeted by unknown attackers in an explosives-laden boat. The Yemeni Navy and Coast Guard rescued all those on board after the attack near Yemen’s Mokha port, according to reports.

The Indian-flagged vessel M/SV Faize Noore Oliya was sunk in the Red Sea near Yemen after an attack by an explosives-laden boat, but all 13 Indian and 1 Yemeni crew members were safely rescued by Yemeni forces. India strongly condemned the unprovoked attack on the commercial ship.

The attack comes days after an Indian naval ship was attacked in the Red Sea. This is speculated to be the first-ever attack on an Indian vessel in the Red Sea, with no group claiming responsibility for the attack so far.

Minister Sarbananda Sonowal strongly condemned the “unprovoked attack” on the Indian vessel.

As per reports, Minister Sonowal tweeted that the mechanized sailing vessel was attacked near Yemen coast by an unknown entity, and later on, it was submerged and sunk. He further stated that the government’s top priority is to ensure the security of the country’s citizens. He also expressed relief that all those on board had been rescued safely.

Further, he stated that he has directed the Director General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) to work in coordination with the concerned authorities to ensure the safety of Indian sailors and also extend all possible help to those rescued from the attack.

MEA released a statement strongly condemning the attack, calling it “unacceptable.” According to the statement, the Union ministry learned with “deep concern” about the attack on the Indian commercial vessel, as it came at a time when commercial ships have been targeted repeatedly in the critical waterway.

They further stated that the attack, which left the ship submerged, resulted in the rescue of all 13 Indian crew members. It may be noted that despite several attacks on commercial ships in the region, the attackers remain unknown, even as India has expressed its concern over the attacks in the region.
