India have named both Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya in the squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, but their participation will depend on fitness clearance ahead of the series. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed that both senior players are yet to fully clear fitness tests before taking the field.
India has named Shubman Gill captain for the ODI series and Test against Afghanistan, Shreyas Iyer as ODI vice-captain, and KL Rahul as Test vice-captain; Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya are included in the ODI squad pending fitness clearance.
The ODI squad will be led by Shubman Gill, with Shreyas Iyer appointed as vice-captain. Virat Kohli also returns to the white-ball setup, while KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan have been selected as the wicket-keeping options.
Ajit Agarkar-led Selection Committee Picks Squads For Afghanistan Series
The BCCI senior men’s selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, met to finalise India’s squads for the Afghanistan home assignment. The tour includes a one-off Test match in Mullanpur beginning June 6, followed by a three-match ODI series starting June 14.
The ODI matches are scheduled to be played in Dharamsala, Lucknow and Chennai.
While Rohit and Hardik headline the ODI squad, Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the series.
New Faces Earn India Call-Ups
The selectors introduced several fresh names across both formats. Prince Yadav earned a place in the ODI setup, while pacer Gurnoor Brar and spinner Manav Suthar received maiden Test call-ups.
Gurnoor Brar and Manav Suthar are teammates at IPL franchise Gujarat Titans. Harsh Dubey was also included in both squads, continuing India’s push to test emerging talent at the international level.
Ishan Kishan returned as the second wicket-keeper in the ODI side alongside KL Rahul.
KL Rahul Named Test Vice-Captain
In the Test squad, KL Rahul has replaced Rishabh Pant as vice-captain under captain Shubman Gill. Senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been rested from the one-off Test against Afghanistan.
India’s Test squad features a blend of established players and youngsters, including Sai Sudharsan, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Devdutt Padikkal.
