Iran Says Ceasefire Agreement Has Entered Crisis
Iranian Foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei while addressing the press conference said that the ceasefire agreement has been sent uncertainty because US has failed to fulfil its promises under the ceasefire agreement.
“There is no doubt that the agreement with the United States is in a state of crisis until the other party fulfills its responsibilities,” Baghaei said.
He also said that Iran’s recent military actions have been done in defence against American military, he said, “Actions on American bases were taken in self-defence.”
Interestingly, MoU signed between US and Iran were aimed to ease tension between the countries last month, it was signed between delegations from both countries travelled to Switzerland. However, things got struck when three commercial vessels were attacked in strait of Hormuz on 6 July. Since the attack things have gone worsen.
Tehran Rejects US Actions In Strait Of Hormuz
Esmail Baghaei criticised US and said their role in Strait of Hormuz pass has made things worst for safe navigation in waterway. “The United States has openly violated the ceasefire agreement. Intervention in Iranian arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz has created a renewed situation of insecurity,” he said.
Talking about Iran’s action on Strait of Hormuz, he said, “We have emphasized that we will not allow the Strait of Hormuz to become a place for threatening Iran’s national security.”
“We have sincerely and responsibly worked to ensure the security and safety of shipping in this route,” he added.
Iran’s spokesperson also said that US is the reason things are getting worse contradicting the statement of US which said they were ensuring easy pass for commercial vessels.
“The party that has constantly obstructed this route is America. The claim they make about escorting commercial ships itself confirms America’s insistence on perpetuating insecurity in the region,” Baghaei said.
He also added, Such behaviors will certainly not create confidence in international shipping and will merely exacerbate the current situation and the prevailing insecurity in the region.”
