Actress Priyanka Chopra’s mother, Madhu Chopra, has reacted to the controversy surrounding Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon’s outfit in a recent festive jewellery advertisement.
Speaking about the controversy, Madhu Chopra said, “There has to be certain boundaries. My body, my choice works within those boundaries. It is good to do it… But that boundary is necessary. How you put your dignity and respect other people’s values matters a lot. You can do it in a place where these things are common. Sorry to say that, our children also wear it. They wear it for work, for hobbies. But it is acceptable because that works in those spaces…”
Madhu Chopra commented on Kriti Sanon’s Raksha Bandhan jewellery ad controversy, stating boundaries and respect for values are necessary, while brand GIVA withdrew the advertisement after backlash over the actress’s attire.
She was responding to the controversy surrounding a Raksha Bandhan advertisement in which Kriti wore an ivory lehenga with a deep-neck blouse and a cape. Some netizens criticised her look, calling it inappropriate for the festival. Following the backlash, jewellery brand GIVA withdrew the advertisement.
GIVA, in a statement shared on Instagram, said it respects Indian culture, traditions and festivals and that hurting religious or cultural sentiments was never its intention.

As a brand, we have always believed in celebrating these joyous moments with the entire family and this time we wanted to extend the love and celebration to our pets. If our recent advertisement has inadvertently hurt the sentiments of some segments of society, that was not our intent at all. Out of respect, we have withdrawn the said advertisement from all media. Wish you all the love & positivity this festive season!” the brand said.
Madhu Chopra’s remarks have also drawn criticism on social media.
