New Delhi, October 16, 2026: Ladakh’s renowned Pashmina, traditional shawls, handwoven textiles, intricate embroidery and indigenous handicrafts are being showcased at Lakme Fashion Week in New Delhi, providing local artisans and entrepreneurs with a national platform to highlight the region’s rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship.

Ladakh Pashmina at Lakme Fashion Week

A dedicated stall has been set up at The Taj, New Delhi, where Lakmé Fashion Week is being held from October 13 to 18, 2026. The showcase features locally crafted products that reflect the creativity and skills of Ladakh’s artisans, weavers, spinners and women entrepreneurs.

Ladakh’s Pashmina and traditional handwoven textiles are showcased at Lakme Fashion Week in New Delhi, spotlighting Changthang artisans, women-led SHGs, and the RAMP-backed push to broaden markets for regional crafts. Designers will present Ladakh-inspired collections, merging centuries-old skill with contemporary fashion to boost local livelihoods.

Ladakh Pashmina represents the dedication, resilience and traditional knowledge of the Changthang community. The region’s pastoral way of life is closely connected with Changra goats, which produce the exceptionally fine Pashmina fibre. Despite the harsh climatic conditions of the high-altitude Changthang plateau, local herders have preserved this tradition across generations.

Ladakh’s Pashmina has consequently become a symbol of the community’s heritage, hard work and deep connection with the land. The stall showcases exquisite Pashmina shawls, traditional textiles, intricate embroidery and other indigenous products. It also highlights the journey of Pashmina from the high-altitude pastures of Changthang to finely crafted products that combine centuries-old traditions with contemporary design.

Ladakh Designers to Present Collections on October 18

A special highlight of the showcase is scheduled for Sunday, October 18, 2026, when designers from Ladakh will present their collections on the fashion runway. The collections will feature Pashmina creations, traditional embroidery and contemporary interpretations of Ladakh’s indigenous textiles. The presentation aims to bring the region’s distinctive cultural identity and craftsmanship into the national fashion spotlight.

Focus on Artisans, Women Entrepreneurs and Local Livelihoods

The participation celebrates not only Ladakh’s traditional products but also the people who sustain these crafts, including Changthang herders, local artisans, skilled craftspeople and women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs). By connecting local craftsmanship with the wider fashion industry, the initiative seeks to expand market opportunities, promote local enterprises and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for people associated with the handicrafts and handloom sectors.

RAMP Scheme to Support Ladakh’s Handicrafts and Handloom Sector

The initiative reflects the broader efforts of the Union Territory Administration and the Department of Industries and Commerce under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme to strengthen Ladakh’s handicrafts and handloom sector. The efforts focus on supporting artisans and SHGs, upgrading traditional skills and improving the market visibility of locally made products.

Participation in a prominent fashion event is expected to provide artisans and entrepreneurs with an opportunity to connect with wider audiences and explore new avenues for growth. From the rugged pastures of Changthang to the fashion runway in New Delhi, Ladakh Pashmina carries the story of a distinctive landscape and the people whose dedication transforms its natural resources into timeless works of art. The showcase highlights the importance of preserving traditional skills while creating new opportunities for local craftsmanship and enterprise.
