Heavy rain in Bengaluru has done little to dampen the festive spirit, with the 220th Independence Day Lalbagh Flower Show recording more than 60,000 footfalls in just two days.
The flower and fruit exhibition, hosted at the iconic Glass House inside Lalbagh Botanical Garden began on August 6 and will continue until August 17, 2026. Visitors can explore the 12-day event every day from 7 am to 7 pm.
Bengaluru’s 220th Independence Day Lalbagh Flower Show, themed ‘The Glory of the Ganga Empire’, runs August 6-17, 2026, featuring floral replicas and attracting over 60,000 visitors in its first two days despite rain.
Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar visited the Lalbagh flower show and urged people, especially women and children, to experience this year’s exhibition. He said the response from the public has been overwhelming despite the heavy rain.
Independence Day Flower Show 2026 celebrates Karnataka’s rich cultural heritage with the theme ‘The Glory of the Ganga Empire’. The exhibition honours the Western Ganga dynasty which ruled parts of present-day Karnataka between the 4th and 10th centuries for over six centuries. The dynasty is best known for commissioning the 57-foot monolithic statue of Bahubali (Gommateshwara) at Shravanabelagola, one of India’s most iconic monuments.
Stealing the spotlight is an impressive floral replica of the 1,300-year-old Begur Naganatheshwara (Panchalingeshwara) Temple Complex. Visitors can also admire floral models of Ganga rulers Sripurusha and Kongunivarma, a striking elephant battle scene, and replicas of the historic temples of Talakad. The elaborate displays have been created using more than 110 varieties of flowers.

Speaking at the event, Shivakumar said Bengaluru owes its foundation to Kempegowda while Hyder Ali and the British played a major role in developing Lalbagh into one of India’s most celebrated botanical gardens.
The chief minister said the state government has identified land to set up three expansive parks in Bengaluru inspired by Lalbagh. The proposal will be discussed with the Union Defence Minister and Forest Department officials in the coming days.
The Chief Minister further said the government is preparing a statewide greenery campaign that will be launched on August 15, along with a 100-day special programme aimed at improving the livelihoods of farmers across Karnataka.

How To Reach Lalbagh Flower Show
The easiest way to reach the venue is by taking the Green Line of the Namma Metro and getting down at Lalbagh Metro Station, which is located a short walk from the botanical garden.
