Lucknow Municipal Corporation is repurposing 56 identified unused government properties in 88 city-limit villages into schools, welfare halls, and offices, addressing local needs and improving educational access for students in backward areas.

Now the LMC has decided to plans to develop these sites into schools, welfare halls, municipal offices and storage facilities according to the local needs. The officials have started on-site inspections before preparing redevelopments plans.

56 Unused Government Properties Identified

According to the municipal survey, the government properties that have not been used since long times are old panchayat buildings, community centres and marriage halls. Now the government is planning to deteriorate the structures but to restore them and beautify them keeping local communities in mind.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Arun Kumar Gupta said that these unused buildings can be converted into welfare halls, municipal offices, and storage facilities. However, the vacant government land will be considered for schools.

Schools and Colleges Planned in Backward Areas

The civic body has also identified many big vacant plots in Kalli Paschim, Bijnor and Tiwaripur in Zone 3 for future education institutes. Now plans are being made to make intermediate schools and degree colleges, and it will start with one location before making it apply into other locations.

The officials have said that these locations have been selected because these locations lack quality education institutes. The project is also expected to make good access to education for children from economically weak families while looking for long-term social economic development.

Survey to Expand to Older City Wards

The MCL will now conduct a survey in older wards of Lucknow to identify more government properties that are not used. Multiple sites like Community centre at Nauwa Kheda and old municipal office near Railway Crossing are also being redeveloped.
