The southwest monsoon reached Kerala on 4 June, signalling the formal start of the rainy season across India and triggering pre-monsoon activity in many states. Maharashtra is seeing scattered showers while some areas still face heatwave conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed 15 districts under a yellow alert across Konkan, West Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha.

According to the latest IMD weather forecast, Vidarbha is expected to record the most intense rain on 4 June, with a yellow alert for heavy showers in Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim and Yavatmal. These districts could experience strong rainfall spells and shifting local winds during the day and evening.

The southwest monsoon reached Kerala on June 4, triggering IMD yellow alerts for heavy rain and thunderstorms in 15 Maharashtra districts across Konkan, West Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha. Delhi experienced cooler winds, anticipating cloud cover after recent heatwaves.

IMD weather forecast for Maharashtra yellow alert regions

The IMD weather forecast places Ratnagiri and Palghar in Konkan under a yellow alert on 4 June, with hot daytime conditions likely before evening rain and gusty winds in some pockets. Light to moderate showers are forecast in parts of Mumbai, Thane and Sindhudurg, bringing early relief from the building humidity as the monsoon begins advancing north.

In West Maharashtra, the IMD weather forecast also flags Kolhapur and Satara with a yellow alert on 4 June. Rain with thunderstorms and lightning is expected in these districts during the evening period, while nearby Sangli, Pune and Solapur may receive light rain showers, which could ease local temperatures but keep conditions humid.

Region Alert / Forecast Districts

Marathwada Yellow alert for storms; light to moderate rain in surrounding districts Beed, Dharashiv, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur
Vidarbha Yellow alert for heavy rainfall Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, Yavatmal

IMD weather forecast for Marathwada and nearby districts

The IMD weather forecast issues similar yellow alerts for Beed and Dharashiv in the Marathwada region, where thunderstorms and lightning are likely. Surrounding districts including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded and Latur are expected to see light to moderate rain, signalling an early build-up of monsoon conditions over central Maharashtra.

IMD weather forecast for Delhi and north India conditions

While Maharashtra prepares for heavier showers, residents of the national capital reported a welcome change in weather on Thursday, with cooler winds bringing relief from the recent scorching heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) states that Delhi is likely to have a partly cloudy sky, which should become generally cloudy from the afternoon onwards.

These IMD weather forecast updates show the southwest monsoon gradually influencing conditions from Kerala to Maharashtra, while northern regions such as Delhi gain short-term relief through cloud cover and lower daytime temperatures. Authorities and residents in the alerted districts are expected to monitor developments closely as rainfall and thunderstorm activity increases in the coming days.
