What Did Khawaja Asif Say?

The exchange followed Khawaja Asif’s criticism of Prime Minister Modi after he was conferred the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ Presidential Distinction by the Seychelles government during his recent visit to the island nation.

Asif reportedly claimed that the honour had been “engineered,” questioning its credibility.

Why Was PM Modi Honoured?

One must know thet Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the first recipient of Seychelles’ newly created ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ Presidential Distinction.
Informing that the award was presented in recognition of his contribution to environmental conservation and his support for the interests of Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The distinction was introduced by the Seychelles government shortly before PM Modi’s visit as part of its newly restructured national honours system.

Well, it was not just Pakistan but India’s opposition parties who questioned the authenticity of the citation after pointing to spelling and typographical errors in the document that was initially circulated. They also alleged that parts of the design appeared to have been created using artificial intelligence.

Seychelles Clarifies the Controversy

Coming across the criticism, the Seychelles government clarified that the honour was genuine. It said that the nation had recently replaced its previous national honours framework after domestic political developments and brought a new award system.

Seychelles said that it had approved the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ distinction on June 24, which is days ahead of PM Modi’s visit.

It further stated that the citation circulated online was only a draft that had been mistakenly released and the final version was approved later.

The Government of India described this as a prous moment for India. The party said the award recognised Prime Minister Modi’s leadership in promoting environmental protection and sustainable development while strengthening India’s ties with island nations.
