Pankaj Tripathi-starrer Mirzapur The Movie has opened on a strong note at the box office after getting fairly positive reviews from critics and audience.
The film, which arrived in theatres on Friday, recorded the collection from 11,135 shows across India and it has earned ₹24.75 crore net on its first day, Sacnilk data said. The Hindi movie has grossed ₹29.70 crore on the opening day.
Pankaj Tripathi’s ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’, based on the Amazon Prime series, had a strong opening on Friday, earning ₹24.75 crore net with 38.7% occupancy nationwide, notably high in Lucknow.
Mirzapur recorded an overall occupancy of 38.7% for its Hindi 2D shows. The film had a relatively slow start in the morning, with occupancy at 25.85%. However, the numbers improved during the afternoon and evening shows. Afternoon occupancy stood at 41.15%, while the evening shows recorded 41.85%.
The film performed particularly well in some of the key Hindi-speaking markets. Lucknow recorded the highest overall occupancy among the major regions listed, at 71%. The film registered 81% occupancy during afternoon shows in the city, followed by 76% in the evening, the data revealed.
The National Capital Region was another strong market, recording 48% overall occupancy. Jaipur also showed good response, with overall occupancy at 50%, while Ahmedabad registered 42.7%. Chandigarh recorded 42.3% occupancy.
The response was comparatively lower in some of the major metropolitan markets. Mumbai recorded 24.3% overall occupancy, while Pune stood at 21.3%. Kolkata registered 23% occupancy. Bengaluru recorded 28.7%, while Hyderabad had 31% occupancy. In Chennai, the film recorded 25.7% overall occupancy.
Gurmmeet Singh-directorial movie is based on hit Amazon Prime Video’s OTT series of the same name. Apart from Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar and Ravi Kishan are playing key roles.
Ravi Kishan, Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Gaur and others are part of the cast.
The movie has John Stewart Eduri’s music, Sanjay Kapoor’s editing and Wilson Birampuria’s editing.
The story of the movie is centered around the throne of Mirzapur, a hub for gun business, opium, and illegal activities in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The story is not just packed with violence but feuds, cycles of revenge, and vendettas dictate every character’s trajectory.
