In the latest development, Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was reportedly pulled alive from the rubble of a hospital in Tehran after the medical facility was hit amid the US-Israeli strikes in February, according to the claim by an Iranian cleric.
Iranian cleric Mohsen Heydari claimed Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was pulled alive from rubble after a Tehran hospital was hit during February 28th US-Israeli strikes that reportedly killed his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Mojtaba Khamenei has remained absent from public view since assuming leadership.
In an interview with Qatar based broadcaster Al Araby, Mohsen Heydari, a member of Iran’s Assembly of Experts made this claim.
Mojtaba Khamenei Was Reportedly Injured In February Strikes
It must be noted that Heydari stated that Mojtaba Khamenei was injured during the February 28 US- Israeli strikes that killed his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Heydari said Mojtaba was taken to a hospital for treatment after being wounded. He then claimed that several hospitals in Tehran were targeted in subsequent strikes.
“Mojtaba Khamenei was in the third hospital and was pulled from the rubble,” Heydari said, according to reports quoting his interview.
Why Mojtaba Khamenei Has Remained Out Of Public View
Mojtaba Khamenei has not made a public appearance since taking over as Iran’s Supreme Leader. Reports have repeatedly highlighted his absence, while Iranian officials have cited security concerns.
Reuters reported in August that Mojtaba had remained completely absent from public view six months into his leadership. Iranian officials have maintained that he continues to exercise authority and govern from a secure location.
Other reports have also said that he did not attend his father’s funeral publicly, adding to questions about his health and security.
Despite the uncertainty, Iran’s leadership has continued to treat Mojtaba as the country’s Supreme Leader.
Questions Remain Over His Health
The latest claim has added another layer to the mystery surrounding Mojtaba’s health.
While Heydari says the Supreme Leader survived being trapped under rubble after the hospital strike, the account does not independently establish the nature or seriousness of his injuries.
Earlier reports had also described Mojtaba as having suffered serious injuries during the initial strikes. Reuters reported in July that he did not appear publicly even during his father’s funeral, while other Iranian officials continued to insist that he remained in charge.
