Mumbai: Representatives of 48 passenger organisations met Maharashtra BJP state president Ravindra Chavan to discuss various issues concerning railway commuters in the Thane-Mumbai region and the suburban railway network. The meeting was held at Dombivli Gymkhana, where key issues related to railway capacity, safety and direct connectivity were discussed.
Mumbai passenger groups met Ravindra Chavan, demanding urgent expansion and improvements for the suburban rail network. Key issues like capacity, safety, and connectivity were raised. Chavan assured action, promising to address commuters’ concerns and expedite pending projects for smoother travel.
The passenger organisations prominently demanded the early completion of the Kalwa-Airoli rail link project. They also sought faster progress on the third and fourth railway lines between Badlapur-Karjat and Kalyan-Kasara, the introduction of shuttle services between Thane and Karjat/Kasara, and the implementation of modern signalling systems to reduce the headway between local trains.
The representatives also raised the need for better direct rail connectivity between Diva-Vasai-Panvel, expansion of Kalyan Junction, and strengthening of railway infrastructure up to CSMT. According to the organisations, these measures could help ease the growing pressure on the suburban railway network and provide commuters with smoother travel.
The passenger organisations submitted a detailed memorandum outlining their demands to Ravindra Chavan. Chavan responded positively to the issues raised and said that necessary initiatives would be taken at the government level, along with coordination with the concerned departments, to address commuters’ concerns.
He also assured the representatives that efforts would be made to increase railway capacity, provide safer and more direct travel options, and expedite pending railway projects.
Kalyan-Dombivli Deputy Mayor Rahul Damle, Bhalchandra Lohkare, Navre Kaka, Madhutai Kotian, Latatai Argade, Nandkumar Deshmukh, Anitatai, Vandana Tai Sonawane, Siddhesh Desai and Aniket Ghamandi, among other dignitaries, were present at the meeting.
