The daughter of a Delhi cop has claimed that his father was “nearly lynched” by anti-social elements during the recent Cockroach Janta Party protests at Jantar Mantar.

Speaking to media on Friday, the daughter of a Delhi Police SI (Sub-Inspector), said that her father served as a Marine Commando in the Indian Navy for 15 years before joining the Delhi Police. She said he was deployed at the main protest site near the barricades and he had warned his family that the protest was “no longer seemed like a student protest.

A Delhi Police SI’s daughter claims he was nearly lynched by a mob during Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests at Jantar Mantar on July 25, sustaining head injuries requiring stitches. Earlier clashes on July 20 also injured police personnel.

She then recounts, “The very next day, on July 25, my father was dragged by a violent mob and was almost lynched near the stage at Jantar Mantar. At around 2 pm, he was admitted to RML Hospital, where he remained unconscious for nearly four hours. At around 10 pm that night, my father’s colleagues brought him home. His uniform was completely soaked in blood. Seeing him in that condition was extremely painful for us. When we asked him what had happened, he simply said, ‘It’s nothing. Minor injuries are part of the job.’ But he had four stitches on his head, which was far from a minor injury.”

The daughter also expressed anguish over social media posts branding her father a “criminal,” and noted that those who attacked him had approached the Supreme Court seeking relief and filing complaints against police personnel. “That hurt me deeply,” she said, adding that she and other police families decided to seek justice through the court.

At the same press meet, the wife of a Delhi Police ACP who sustained injuries during the clash between police and CJP protesters in Delhi on July 20, says, “When he returned home late on the night of July 20 with injuries, it was an extremely painful and traumatic moment for me and my two-year-old daughter. Today, I am here with family members of Delhi Police personnel, and we want to share our ordeal with all of you.”

Seema, wife of an ASI, says, “The miscreants who attempted to disrupt the students’ protest, tarnish its image, and undermine the dignity of Parliament should be held accountable for their actions and should not be spared. At the same time, the students should be released after their records are verified.”
