The Government of India has invited suggestions from students, parents, teachers, experts and other stakeholders as part of a major exercise to reform the country’s public examination system.

Initiative For Exam Reforms

India’s government seeks stakeholder suggestions by September 13, 2026, via a Nandan Nilekani-led task force, to reform public examinations, aiming for a secure, transparent, equitable, and future-ready system covering conduct, security, design, and technology.

The consultation is being conducted by a High-Powered Task Force (HPTF) on examination reforms, headed by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani. The task force has been asked to examine and recommend comprehensive reforms covering the conduct, security, design and governance of public examinations, including examinations conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The government said the objective is to develop a public examination system that is secure, transparent, equitable and future-ready, while improving institutional processes, examination infrastructure, technology, accessibility and student well-being.

What Is The Nandan Nilekani-Led Task Force Examining?

The HPTF is looking at the examination system as a whole, including how examinations are designed and conducted, how their security can be strengthened and how governance and accountability can be improved.

The consultation is also seeking suggestions on the prevention, detection and redressal of examination malpractices, along with measures to strengthen examination integrity and security.

Technology And Computer-Based Tests

Technology is another key area under consideration.

The task force is seeking suggestions on the use of technology in examinations, including secure computer-based testing (CBT). It is also examining ways to create and augment the physical and technological infrastructure required to conduct examinations at scale.

Accessibility And Inclusion

The government is also seeking suggestions on creating a more inclusive examination framework.

The consultation will examine how examination systems can improve access for candidates across social, economic, regional and linguistic groups.

Transparency And Grievance Redressal

Another area of focus is transparency and communication with candidates.
Stakeholders can suggest measures to improve grievance redressal, stakeholder communication and transparency in examination-related decisions.
The task force is also seeking recommendations on measures to safeguard student well-being throughout the examination process.

Who Can Submit Suggestions?

The consultation is open to a wide range of stakeholders, including:

• Students and examination candidates
• Parents
• Teachers and academic institutions
• Examination-conducting and test-indenting bodies
• Subject matter experts
• Technology professionals
• Industry organisations
• Civil society groups
• Other interested stakeholders

The government has also invited suggestions on any other measure that could add value to the public examination system.

How To Submit Suggestions

Stakeholders can submit their suggestions through the following channels:

  • Toll-free number: 1800-180-4747
  • WhatsApp: Send “hptf” to +91 78270 42830
  • Email: [email protected]
