Russia has once again showcased its growing naval power as the war in Ukraine continues and tensions with NATO remain high. In a major demonstration of military capability, Russia’s Northern Fleet released footage of its nuclear-powered submarine Arkhangelsk launching an Oniks cruise missile from a submerged position in the Barents Sea. According to Russian officials, the missile successfully struck a target simulating an enemy warship nearly 200 kilometers away. The test comes amid heightened confrontation between Moscow and the West, with NATO closely monitoring Russian military activities across the Arctic and North Atlantic. The Arkhangelsk is one of Russia’s newest Yasen-M class submarines, designed with advanced stealth features and armed with Oniks, Kalibr, and Tsirkon missiles. President Vladimir Putin has previously described the submarine as one of the most advanced vessels in Russia’s arsenal.
