The National Conference (NC) is facing fresh trouble after 19 of its MLAs, including independent legislators, held a secret meeting in Srinagar and raised concerns over Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s leadership. The legislators have reportedly demanded a cabinet reshuffle and the removal of key officials close to the Chief Minister.

Nineteen National Conference MLAs held a secret meeting in Srinagar, raising concerns over CM Omar Abdullah’s leadership and demanding a cabinet reshuffle, removal of specific officials, and fair regional representation. They rejected mediation attempts and insisted on direct talks with the Chief Minister.
The four-hour meeting was held over lunch at the residence of Lolab MLA Kaiser Jamsheed Lone. The development has raised concerns within the party, with its leadership trying to prevent any possible rebellion or defection.
NC Rebels Refuse To Meet Omar Abdullah’s Aide
According to sources, Omar Abdullah sent a close aide from Delhi to speak with the dissatisfied MLAs. However, the legislators refused to meet the aide and insisted on holding direct discussions with the Chief Minister.
“We want direct talks with the chief minister, we don’t want to talk to his aide,” an MLA reportedly said.
National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has also spoken to several rebel MLAs in an attempt to resolve the matter. He reportedly offered a cabinet reshuffle after one-and-a-half years and assured those who have not received ministerial positions that they would be accommodated later.
However, the legislators have rejected the proposal and remain firm on their demands.
What Are The Four Major Demands?
The rebel MLAs have raised four major demands, including the implementation of the Dachigam Declaration, which they claim has been violated.
They have also demanded the removal of all four ministers who have completed two years in office, arguing that new faces should get an opportunity in the cabinet.
Another demand is the removal of the Chief Minister’s adviser and certain party office-bearers. The legislators have reportedly raised complaints against Kashmir provincial president Showkat Ahmad Mir and Shammi Oberoi.
Jammu And Pir Panjal Representation Also A Concern
The legislators have also demanded fair representation for Jammu and Pir Panjal regions. Some MLAs from Pir Panjal have expressed anger over the Deputy Chief Minister, alleging that development funds have been concentrated in his constituency.
They have further called for greater inner-party democracy.
The meeting included legislators from different regions, including Kashmir, Jammu and Pir Panjal. However, the rebel MLAs have ruled out taking support from the BJP and said they will continue raising their concerns within the National Conference.
