Pakistan’s security forces foiled a major terrorist attack on a Pakistan Rangers facility in Karachi on Saturday after an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into the compound, triggering a powerful blast and a prolonged exchange of gunfire. The operation left six terrorists dead, while four Sindh Rangers personnel lost their lives.

Pakistan security forces foiled a major terrorist assault on a Karachi Rangers facility Saturday, killing six attackers and losing four personnel after an explosives-laden vehicle detonated and gunfire ensued. The banned Jamaat-ul-Ahrar claimed responsibility.

Explosion Triggers Heavy Gunfire In Karachi

The attack unfolded in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar area, where residents first heard a loud explosion followed by intense gunfire near Mosamiat Chowrangi. Security personnel quickly sealed off the surrounding roads as emergency forces rushed to the scene.

A second blast was later reported near Meteorological Chowrangi on University Road, prompting the deployment of specialised units, including the Rapid Response Force and police commandos, according to Dawn.

Security Forces Neutralise Attackers

Officials said the attackers used an explosives-filled vehicle to target the provincial headquarters of the paramilitary Pakistan Rangers. Security forces responded immediately, leading to a fierce gun battle.

The operation ended with six terrorists being killed, while one suspect was captured alive. However, four Sindh Rangers personnel were killed while defending the facility during the assault.

Jamaat-ul-Ahrar Claims Responsibility

The banned extremist outfit Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA), a splinter faction of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility for the attack. The group said the assault was carried out by its suicide unit, Khulafa-e-Rashideen Ishtishhadi Brigade.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident as security agencies continue efforts to identify the attackers’ network and possible support system.

Sindh Chief Minister Orders Investigation

Reacting to the attack, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said he had “taken notice of the reported sound of an explosion and the alleged firing”, adding that he had sought a comprehensive report on the incident.

He also directed law enforcement agencies to respond without delay, saying, “Police should immediately reach the scene, determine the nature of the incident, and take all necessary measures.”

Pakistan has witnessed a rise in attacks targeting security personnel over the past few years. Authorities have repeatedly blamed the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan and its affiliated extremist organisations for carrying out most of these deadly assaults across the country.
