The Uttar Pradesh government has announced relief for potato farmers to reduce their storage costs and protect them for fluctuations in the market price. Farmers will receive Rs 1 per KG rebate on storage charges, while 1.50 Rs per KG payment will be provided under the price-different support mechanism.
The Uttar Pradesh government provides potato farmers a Rs 1/KG storage fee rebate and Rs 1.50/KG price difference support, allocating Rs 1000 crore and Rs 100 crore respectively via DBT to stabilize income and improve market returns.
Rs 1 Per Kg Storage Fee Relief
The government has made a relief for storage fee with Rs 1,000 crores relief. The amount will be transferred to eligible farmer’s bank accounts directly through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The measures are aimed to reduce the pressure of the farmers who store potatoes after farming instead of selling immediately when market prices are low.
₹1.50 Per Kg Price Difference Payment
The government has also announced 1.50 per KG relief assistance for farmers to protest their market price fluctuations. A budget of Rs 100 crore has been approved for this measure.
The payment has designed to help farmers when market price falls and reduce that impact sudden changes in potato prices.
Government Expands Potato Markets
Horticulture Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh and department authorities have started working on better marketing opportunities during the current potato financial year.
A buyer-seller meeting was held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha on 30 January 2026. The minister met Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister, Agriculture Minister, farmers and business representatives to discuss increase supply of Uttar Pradesh potatoes to Odisha.
The senior horticulture officials have also visited other states to understand the market. The government has made it clear that these are aimed to improve farming’s returns and strengthening potato market.
