During Punjab’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra met recognised political parties and shared lists of unmapped voters from the pre-mapping exercise. She announced special camps at all polling stations on June 7, with Booth Level Officers available 10 am to 4 pm, to speed voter mapping ahead of house-to-house enumeration.

Mitra said special camps would run at every polling station on June 7. Booth Level Officers would be present from 10 am to 4 pm. Mitra said the camps were meant to speed up voter mapping. Mitra also explained mapping steps through the Election Commissions voter services portal.

Punjab electoral rolls Special Intensive Revision schedule changes

Mitra said the Election Commission of India made partial changes to the earlier SIR schedule. Mitra said the draft electoral rolls would now be published on August 3. The claims and objections window would run from August 3 to September 2. Mitra added that notices and disposal would continue from August 3 to September 28.

Mitra said the rest of the programme issued on May 14, 2026 stayed the same. Mitra told party representatives that the unmapped lists reflected data as on May 27. Mitra added that some electors on those lists may have been mapped later. Mitra said officials were still working to complete pre-mapping in time.

Mitra addressed questions about what happened if a voter stayed unmapped. Mitra said there was no need for the voter to worry. Mitra said officials would ask for documents to confirm voter details. Mitra said the approach was meant to verify entries and finish the exercise smoothly.

Mitra urged political parties to support the completion of the SIR exercise. Mitra asked parties to speed up the appointment of booth level agents. Mitra highlighted the role of BLAs-2 during the process. Mitra said parties should complete these appointments as early as possible.

Party representatives at the meeting included Ferry Sofat from the Aam Aadmi Party. Others present were Jaswant Rai and Ajit Singh Bhaini from the Bahujan Samaj Party, and N K Verma from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Sunil Kumar attended from the Communist Party of India Marxist, along with Sandeep Sandhu and Hardeep Singh Kingra from the Indian National Congress, and Arshdeep Singh Kler from the Shiromani Akali Dal.
