Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stepped up his attack on the Centre over its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls on Saturday, saying that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the present government will eventually go and democracy will be restored.
“Gyanesh Kumar will go. This government will go. After this, democracy will be restored,” the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said in a post on X along with a video clip of his address to INDIA bloc MPs at the Central Hall of Parliament.
Rahul Gandhi criticized the Centre’s electoral roll revision, predicting the downfall of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and the government, as the CJP planned a New Delhi protest over alleged irregularities, prompting police detentions and BJP accusations against opposition leaders.

The comment came as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) prepared to stage its ‘Jantar Mantar 2.0’ demonstration in New Delhi, demanding the resignation of Kumar over alleged irregularities connected to this SIR.

While the Congress does not extend its support to the CJP-led action, several other opposition parties like the Samajwadi Party of Akhilesh Yadav, Aam Aadmi Party of Arvind Kejriwal and Left organisations have endorsed the proposed mobilisation.
BJP accuses opposition leaders of fuelling unrest
The BJP went after the opposition over its proposed rally and criticism of the government.
National president of the BJP Nitin Nabin accused Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal of trying to create unrest in the country, alleging that their actions were inspired by “foreign masters”. He also warned that the government would take suitable action.
Speaking to reporters, Nabin accused opposition leaders of trying to destabilise the country rather than recognising its development amidst a global crisis.
He accused two opposition groupings – one led by Gandhi and the other associated with Kejriwal and the CJP – of fanning the unrest.
Security strengthened as CJP protest faces restrictions
Security arrangements have been stepped up across Delhi ahead of the proposed CJP demonstration at Jantar Mantar. Delhi Police denied permission for the protest due to law-and-order concerns.
According to the account provided, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained by police shortly after arriving in Delhi by flight.
Authorities have urged those planning to gather to cooperate with the police and maintain law and order in the capital.
