Reports suggest that discussions between the film’s makers and theatre owners over revenue-sharing arrangements may have delayed the wider rollout of bookings.
IMAX Screenings Drive Ramayana Ticket Sales
Premium formats are emerging as a major attraction for the film. IMAX screenings account for only 3.8% of the total shows but have generated nearly 25% of advance booking revenue.
Regular screenings have sold around 1.5 lakh tickets across more than 4,100 shows, averaging approximately 35 tickets per screening. In comparison, IMAX has sold over 23,000 tickets across 140 shows, averaging around 170 tickets per screening.
The average IMAX ticket price stands at Rs 1500, compared with Rs 380 for regular shows. Other premium formats, including 4DX, ICE and Dolby Cinema, have collectively sold over 12,000 tickets across languages.
Ranbir Kapoor, Yash Lead Two-Part Ramayana
Produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana is planned as a two-part cinematic adaptation.
Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi portrays Sita, Yash stars as Ravana, Ravie Dubey plays Lakshman, and Sunny Deol appears as Lord Hanuman.
The first instalment will release worldwide on 5 November 2026, followed by the second part during Diwali 2027. The films are planned for release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, with a worldwide IMAX release also planned.
Sony Pictures will handle international distribution outside India, while Dharma Productions will distribute the film in the Hindi-speaking market.
