The Madras High Court has directed the state police to release Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Leader of Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, today on station bail after questioning him.
The DMK leader was arrested by the cops for allegedly making derogatory remarks at Chief Minister Vijay and actress Trisha Krishnan on Monday.
The Tamil Nadu government has informed the Madras High Court that it will facilitate the release of Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Leader of the Opposition, by the end of the day.
Tamil Nadu Advocate General Vijay Narayanan told the court that the police will release the DMK leader questioning. The Leader of the Opposition is being taken to Thanjavur and the state does not intend to remand him.
Following the submission from Vijay Narayanan, Justice GK Ilanthiraiya asked Udhayanidhi Stalin to cooperate with the cops whenever required.
Earlier, Justice Ilanthiraiyan agreed to hear the matter at 12 noon and instructed the Government Pleader to inform police not to take any action until the hearing. However, the cops arrested him before the matter was taken up.

Udhayanidhi has been booked under 61, 79, 192, 196, 296(b), 351(2), 352 of BNS, 4 of TN Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act, 67 of IT Act.
During a speech at a Cauvery rally, Stalin targeted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay when he was interrupted by members of the crowd chanting, “Trisha, Trisha.” He paused, smiled and made a remark that many interpreted as an indirect reference to Trisha.
However, Udhayanidhi Stalin has claimed that a “fake narrative” has been created against him.

“They have propagated fake news by using ‘Cut, Copy, Paste’ to claim I said something I never said. I am not the kind of person to be intimidated by all this. I will face it legally,” ANI quoted the DMK leader as saying. He said the police action against him was a “comedy”.
The DMK leader’s remarks have met with strong criticism from the BJP and the TVK.
Tamil Nadu BJP chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy said Udhayanidhi’s “double-meaning” comments are “disgusting, obscene, vulgar and shameful”. “Truly, even a rogue or thief who has a mother, wife, daughter would not speak so vulgarly. No mother, wife, or daughter would forgive those who speak like that,” he wrote in a post on X.
BJP leader Khushbu Sundar has slammed Udhayanidhi for his “crass” comments on actress Trisha Krishnan.
In a post on X, Khushbu, who is a close friend of Trisha, has called his speech “crass”, “cheap” and “deeply derogatory” that reflects the “political culture he seems eager to inherit.”

She questioned, “If those with such a mindset aspire to lead a political party and one day govern the state, then God help us. What else can one expect from people who treat abusing, degrading and insulting women as a form of political theatre, basking in the applause, whistles and laughter of their loyal supporters? And who will know this better but me?”
Meanwhile, DMK workers threw slippers at police, burn an effigy in protest against police detention of Udhayanidhi Stalin under nine sections, according to ANI. The party workers also protested in front of the Madras High Court.
