A retired Indian Air Force Group Captain and Kargil War veteran accused a parking attendant at Magnum Global Park in Gurugram in the presence of others of attacking him with an iron rod while resolving a dispute on parking leading to the person sustaining a head injury and a fractured hand.
Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired) has complained to the Sector 65 police station about the incident that occurred on September 10 when he arrived at the commercial complex for a family dinner at Gonzo restaurant.
Retired IAF Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta alleges a parking attendant attacked him with an iron rod at Gurugram’s Magnum Global Park on Sep 10 following a dispute, causing head and hand injuries; police are investigating the Kargil War veteran’s complaint.
In the complaint, Gupta alleged that he dropped his family at the restaurant at around 8 pm and proceeded to park his car. He alleged that parking personnel kept directing him between various parking areas including the valet, basement and multilevel parking before finally refusing to park his vehicle.
The situation escalated when Gupta tried to reverse his car. He alleged that one of the parking attendants hit the windshield and appeared to be attempting to damage his vehicle. The accused came back a few minutes later with an iron rod.
Gupta has alleged that the accused hit him twice with the rod before he hit the complainant’s hand causing a fracture. He alleged that the second blow landed on his head leading to profuse bleeding. The accused allegedly threatened to kill him after the attack.
The injured veteran was taken to Medanta Hospital by members of his family where he is currently undergoing treatment. In his complaint, Gupta has asked the police to register a case of attempt to murder against the accused.
Police are investigating the accusations levelled against the parking attendant. It remains to be seen if the allegations in the complaint will be independently established as the investigation unfolds.
Gupta is a veteran of the 1999 Kargil War and part of the Indian air force’s high altitude air operations during the conflict. The IAF’s campaign, dubbed Operation Safed Sagar, was launched to support the Army and target Pakistani positions and infiltrators in the Kargil sector.
The air operation has recently regained public attention after a Netflix series in August made tributes to the IAF’s role in the Kargil conflict.
