Recognised as India’s No. 1 Boys’ Boarding School in the EducationWorld India School Rankings 2025, Sarala Birla Academy (SBA) was established with the vision of Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group. His goal has always been to create an institution that prepares students not only for academic success but also for life, helping them develop the skills, values and confidence to stand out among their peers.

India’s No. 1 Boys’ Boarding School, Sarala Birla Academy in Bengaluru, founded by Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, offers IGCSE, ICSE, and IBDP curricula for Classes V-XII, focusing on personalised learning, character development, and global opportunities.
Spread across 67 acres of green surroundings in Bengaluru, Sarala Birla Academy offers an environment that encourages both academic excellence and personal development. The school admits students from Class V to Class XII and follows multiple internationally recognised curricula.
SBA is affiliated with Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) for IGCSE, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) for ICSE and ISC, and the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) for the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP). This allows students to choose a curriculum that best matches their academic goals and future aspirations.
Personalised Learning with Global Opportunities
One of the academy’s strengths is its focus on individual attention. Classrooms are limited to 25 students, while the overall teacher-to-student ratio is maintained at 1:7, ensuring every student receives personalised guidance.
Teachers combine innovative teaching methods with modern technology to make learning engaging and encourage curiosity. As a result, SBA students regularly secure admissions to leading universities around the world.
Each year, representatives from more than 100 international universities visit the campus to conduct workshops, counselling sessions and education fairs, giving students direct access to global higher education opportunities.
Beyond Academics: Building Character
At Sarala Birla Academy, education extends well beyond textbooks. Equal importance is given to character development, leadership and life skills.
Students are encouraged to develop values such as integrity, compassion, discipline, respect and responsibility, while also gaining a global perspective rooted in Indian traditions.
The curriculum includes a wide range of co-curricular and extracurricular activities, including sports, music, theatre, visual arts, cultural programmes and vocational training. Students are free to pursue activities that match their interests and talents, helping them grow into confident and well-rounded individuals.
Encouraging Leadership and Global Exposure
Recognising the importance of collaboration and leadership in today’s world, SBA provides several opportunities for students to participate in national and international programmes.
The academy is associated with organisations such as Round Square, Generation Global, the Indian Public Schools’ Conference (IPSC), The Association of International Schools of India (TAISI) and the Association of Schools for the Indian School Certificate (ASISC).
Students also participate in the International Award for Young People (IAYP), part of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, and the school functions as a Youth Engaging Society (YES) Centre. In recognition of its international outlook, SBA has also received the International School Award from the British Council.
Preparing Students for Life
The academy believes that academic achievements alone are not enough to succeed in today’s world. It focuses on developing qualities such as leadership, effective communication, resilience, critical thinking and decision-making.
Students are encouraged to take responsibility in the day-to-day functioning of the boarding community, helping them become accountable, independent and confident from an early age.
Sarala Birla Academy considers parents to be key partners in a child’s education. The school believes that close collaboration between parents and educators creates the best environment for students to thrive.
According to Principal Santanu Das, the shared responsibility of families and schools is to nurture responsible global citizens who are capable of leading with compassion, wisdom and integrity while contributing positively to society.
