Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was forcefully taken to the hospital by the Delhi Police during his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, is being given “necessary medical care” at the Safdarjung Hospital and he remains under close and continuous assessment, the health bulletin released at 9 am said on Tuesday.

Sonam Wangchuk’s vital parameters remain stable and his blood sugar levels continue to remain on the lower side, the hospital said. “His serum potassium level as analysed from a sample collected last night stands at 3.2 mEq/L, and he continues to have persistent pancytopenia, characterized by anaemia and low leukocyte counts,” the statement said.

Activist Sonam Wangchuk, hospitalized Saturday during his hunger strike for Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over NEET leak issues, shows stable vitals at Safdarjung Hospital but requires monitoring for conditions like pancytopenia. Wangchuk continues his protest demands from the hospital.

According to the press release, “These clinical and laboratory parameters warrant continued close monitoring through serial investigations. He is currently receiving oral rehydration therapy (ORS) and oral potassium supplementation. However, he continues to decline intravenous fluids and glucose administration despite repeated medical advice. In view of his ongoing mild to moderate dehydration, persistent laboratory abnormalities, and the physiological stress associated with prolonged fasting, sustained medical supervision and continuous clinical monitoring remain essential for his recovery and for the timely identification and management of any potential complications.”

The Delhi hospital added that further management will be guided by his clinical progress and serial laboratory investigations.

Demanding the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over NEET leak, Sonam Wangchuk began his hunger strike on June 28. He has the backing of Cockroach Janta Party, Indian youth-based satirical political movement founded on 16 May 2026 by Abhijeet Dipke.

As his health showed signs of deterioration, the Delhi Police entered the protest site early morning on Saturday and shifted him to the hospital. However, the activist has claimed that he will continue his protest until the protesters are allowed to meet the Parliamentarians.

“I will continue my fast. Seeing the brutality with which peacefully protesting Youth are being dealt with, I have decided to continue my fast until the youth leaders are allowed to meet the Parliamentarians at the Sansad Bhawan or l am allowed to meet them here at the Hospital.

Hopefully, the government will fix the accountability of the Education Minister before then. I’m touched and moved by how the youth have held on to peace despite provocation and I appeal to the Govt & Police force to resolve the issue by simply allowing the students to present their grievances before the Parliament today or tomorrow. I’m sure the young protesters will show the same patience and tolerance tomorrow as they did today.”

On meeting with Govt yesterday, he says, “We did not receive any response. 5 hours were wasted. If the Govt wants to talk to us, they will now have to come here.”

The protesters met Union Minister JP Nadda on Monday and kept three demands before the government. Apart from seeking Pradhan’s resignation, the CJP protesters have asked for immediate release of Sonam Wangchuk and Rs 1 crore compensation for all NEET aspirants who committed suicide.

“Ashutosh Ranka and I have been at JP Nadda’s residence since 12 noon. The demands have been conveyed, including immediate resignation/sacking of Dharmendra Pradhan. The Minister assured us he will discuss this at the appropriate level. However, no commitments have been made so far. The peaceful protesters will not rest until the demand is met!” The CJP spokespersons Saurav Das said in a post on X.

However, the government has appealed the protesters to end their sit-in and “assist the administration in restoring normalcy.”

“This morning, for the first time, a proposal came from the protesters to hold talks with the government, and our discussions have been ongoing since 11:50am. The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere. An initial verbal discussion was held in detail with their delegation, and they submitted a written petition to me around 4pm. I have requested all the protesters to end their sit-in and assist the administration in restoring normalcy,” Nadda said in a post.

During a Parliament march on Monday, the Delhi Police personnel were injured during clashes with protesters. The Police department has accused the protesters of pelting stones at security personnel during the confrontation.
