Former Delhi Councillor Tahir Hussain has been convicted in Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma’s murder in Delhi 2020 Riots. He was killed in communal violence that resulted in riots in Delhi in February 2020. Four others also found guilty in the case, while six were acquitted.

Former Delhi Councillor Tahir Hussain and four others were convicted by the Karkardooma Court for the murder of IB officer Ankit Sharma during the February 2020 Delhi Riots; six co-accused were acquitted.
Court Holds Tahir Hussain And Four Others Guilty
Karkardooma Court additional session judge Parveen Singh pronounced the verdict, announcing Tahir Hussain guilty under Sections 302 (murder), 153A, 147, 148, 149, 365 and 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Although, the court has acquitted him from the charges under Section 120B (Criminal conspiracy) and 129 of the IPC.
Besides Hussain, the court has also convicted Nazim, Kasim, Javed, and Anas from their part in the crime. Although the other six accused were acquitted after court didn’t find any proof of their involvement.
According to the media reports, Hussain was emotional and broke down in the courtroom after the verdict was announced.
Ankit Sharma Was Reported Missing Before Body Was Found
This is to notice that this case is related to FIR no. 65 of 2020 which was registered at Dayalpur Police station, filed by Ankit Sharma’s father. He alleged that ex-councillor Tahir Hussain and his men were responsible in killing of his son.
According to the case, Ankit left the home on 25 February 2020, around 5 PM to buy groceries and other items for the home. But he never returned home. When he didn’t return his family a complaint for missing person in police. Later, his body was recovered from a drain near Chand Bagh Pulia and he declared dead after taken to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) hospital.
His body was taken to post-mortem and it was revealed in the report Ankit suffered 51 injuries spot with sharp-edged weapons and blunt force.
Charges Framed During Trial In 2023
In March 2023, Tahir Hussain, and 10 other accused were charged in the trial court under provisions of IPC for murder, rioting, promoting increasing enmity between religious groups, kidnapping, and illegal conspiracy.
Tahir Hussain faced the charges under sections 505, 109, and 114 of IPC, while Nazim was saved was charged solely under Section 25 of Arms Act.
