Parts of Tamil Nadu will get moderate rains on Monday, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) said in its daily bulletin.
In a statement, the RMC said that rains will be accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph. The rains are expected over Western Ghat districts and Chengalpattu, Tiruvanannamalai, Viluppuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Sivagangai and Pudukkotai districts and Puducherry.
Parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, anticipate moderate rains with 40-50 kmph winds on Monday, while August rainfall predictions vary by region due to strengthening El Niño conditions. The state recorded an 18% rainfall deficit between June 1 and August 1.
The weather agency notes that no large change in the maximum temperatures with slight increasing tendency from Monday to Thursday over North Interior Tamil Nadu. The daily bulletin read: “Maximum temperatures are likely to be above normal by 2-3°C at a few pockets during Day 1 (10.08.2026) to Day 5 (14.08.2026) over North Interior Tamil Nadu; near normal over rest Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.”
The Tamil Nadu capital is likely to get light to moderate rains with thunderstorm and lighting during evening and night hours. The temperature is predicted to hover around 37-38°C and 26-27 °C.
According to the weather agency, Vediyarenthal (dist Sivagangai) received highest rains on Sunday with 5 cms followed by 4 cms in Thiruchendur AWS (dist Thoothukudi), Aruppukottai (dist Virudhunagar), Sholavandan (dist Madurai), Sethupuram (dist Virudhunagar).
According to the weather agency, coastal districts are expected to get normal to above-normal rainfall in August. However, the Western Ghats districts is likely to experience below-normal rainfall as moderate El Niño conditions continue to strengthen over the equatorial Pacific Ocean.
The IMD data says that Between June 1 and August 1, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry received 100.5 mm of rainfall against the normal 122.7 mm, registering a 18% deficit.
