West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday shared her first reaction after an exceptionally high voter turnout in the first phase of Assembly elections.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee stated that the high 89.93% voter turnout in Phase 1 signifies the TMC is in a winning position and reflects public support, while also expressing her ambition to unite opposition parties nationally to end BJP rule.

Speaking at a rally in Kolkata, she said the strong participation indicates that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is already in a winning position.

“People’s Mood Shows TMC Advantage”

Addressing supporters in the Bow Bazar area, Mamata Banerjee said that based on her understanding of public sentiment, the results are likely to favour her party.

She stated that the voting trends reflect strong support for TMC and added that the party is confident about its prospects in the election.

“From my understanding of people’s mind, we are already in a position to win given the polling held so far today,” she said.

Record Turnout Strengthens Political Messaging

The Chief Minister’s statement comes after West Bengal recorded a massive 89.93% voter turnout till 5 PM in Phase 1 polling. Voting took place across 152 out of 294 assembly seats, making it a crucial stage of the election.

Such a high turnout is being closely analysed by political parties, as it often reflects strong voter engagement and can influence the final outcome.

Attack on BJP, Focus on National Politics

In her speech, Mamata Banerjee also took aim at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the central government. She said her primary goal is not personal power but bringing an end to BJP rule at the Centre.

“I am not interested in any post, I only want the end of BJP government at the Centre,” she said.

She further added that after winning in West Bengal, she aims to unite opposition parties and challenge the BJP at the national level.

“Will Conquer Delhi With Opposition Unity”

Banerjee also made a broader political statement, saying she plans to take the fight beyond the state.

She expressed confidence that a victory in West Bengal would strengthen efforts to build a united opposition front in Delhi. According to her, this could play a key role in shaping national politics in the coming years.

Next Phase and What Lies Ahead

The first phase of polling has set the tone for the rest of the election. The second phase will take place on April 29, while the counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
With such high turnout in Phase 1, both TMC and BJP are expected to intensify their campaigns ahead of the next round of voting.
