Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has warned of launching a hunger strike or taking out a foot march if Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders detained ahead of the proposed protest in Delhi are not released by Sunday. He described the prevailing situation in India as an “undeclared emergency” amid the police action against protesters.

Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk warned of a hunger strike or foot march if detained CJP leaders aren’t released by Sunday, citing an undeclared emergency after Delhi Police detained over 3,000 protesters heading to Jantar Mantar regarding alleged voter-list manipulation.
Wangchuk said he had appealed for unity and peace before the planned demonstration but had not expected leaders associated with the movement to be arrested. He expressed hope that they would be released soon, warning that he might have to resort to an Anshan (hunger strike) or padyatra (foot march) if they remained in custody.
Wangchuk Warns Of Further Action Over Detentions
The activist’s warning comes as Delhi Police stepped up security ahead of the CJP’s proposed demonstration at Jantar Mantar. His statement indicates the possibility of further protest if the detained leaders are not released within the deadline he has set.
INDIA IN A STATE OF UNDECLARED EMERGENCY… Yesterday when I posted a message appealing for unity & peace in todays protest I had never imagined that the biggest democracy in the world would be under an undeclared EMERGENCY.I was happy there were so many leaders to lead the movement, but I now learn that they have all been arrested. I hope those arrested will be released soon. I will be compelled to consider an Anshan Fast or Padyatra March if they are not released by tomorrow.#JantarMantar #protest #CJP #CEC #sonamwangchuk

Delhi Police Detains Over 3,000 Protesters
Police detained more than 3,000 protesters on Saturday as they attempted to reach Jantar Mantar to demonstrate against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Detentions were reported near Regal Cinema, Minto Bridge, Akashwani Bhawan and other locations across the capital.
Police sources said more than 600 people with criminal records were also detained across Delhi as a preventive measure. Authorities deployed drones to monitor movement and increased surveillance outside the residences of people suspected of mobilising crowds.
Police Says No Permission Granted For Protest
Special Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Devesh Srivastava told PTI that extensive security arrangements had been made, with police forces deployed near areas bordering neighbouring states in coordination with their counterparts.

“The situation is under control. People who are going to Jantar Mantar are being detained as we had already said that no permission for such protest is granted,” he said.
Prohibitory orders remain in force in the New Delhi area, and police have urged residents to follow the restrictions.
CJP Protest Targets Electoral Roll Revision
The proposed CJP demonstration concerns allegations of voter-list manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and changes involving Form 6, which is used to register voters. The protest was planned to raise concerns over the electoral process and the role of the Chief Election Commissioner.
