The Yogi government is continuously setting new benchmarks in the field of higher education in Uttar Pradesh. Universities in the state, which were once limited to B and B+ grades in NAAC rankings, are now securing A++, A+ and A grades, creating a new identity for themselves at the national level.

UP Raises Higher Education NAAC Grades

Now, the next major target of the Uttar Pradesh government is to help degree colleges achieve national and international rankings on the lines of universities. To achieve this goal, special workshops are being organised for principals and teachers of degree colleges to encourage them to improve institutional standards and secure rankings.

Uttar Pradesh is enhancing higher education by pushing universities to higher NAAC grades, initiating workshops for degree colleges to improve standards, and pursuing international rankings. The initiative aims to raise enrolment, align with the National Education Policy, and strengthen research and digital resources.

Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay, while addressing a press conference at the Assembly, said that the government’s focus will no longer remain limited to universities alone. In the next phase, the state government aims to help degree colleges secure NAAC and other national rankings.

He said workshops are being organised for principals and faculty members to guide them on improving institutional quality, research culture, digital education, infrastructure and student facilities. The minister added that special emphasis is also being laid on increasing student enrolment, developing courses in accordance with the National Education Policy and promoting employment-oriented education.

UP moving towards becoming a hub of quality education

Yogendra Upadhyay said the objective of the Yogi government is to make Uttar Pradesh’s higher education system nationally competitive and aligned with global standards. He stated that Uttar Pradesh is now moving rapidly towards becoming not only the state with the highest number of universities, but also a leading centre for quality higher education in the country.

Universities achieving higher grades under Yogi government

The Higher Education Minister said that major changes have taken place in the state’s higher education system under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. According to the minister, before the Yogi government came to power, most universities in Uttar Pradesh were confined to B or B+ grades in NAAC rankings and no university in the state had achieved the A category or above.

He said special workshops were organised under the leadership of the Governor and Chancellor of universities, where institutions were guided on improving quality, research, digital resources, teaching systems and academic environment. As a result, seven universities in Uttar Pradesh have now secured NAAC A++ rankings, while four universities have achieved A+ grades and two universities have entered the A-grade category.

UP universities making global presence felt

The minister also highlighted that universities in Uttar Pradesh are now making their presence felt on international platforms as well. He said that earlier even the mention of QS World Rankings was rare in the state, but now two universities from Uttar Pradesh have been included in the QS World Rankings, while six universities have secured positions in the QS Asia Rankings.

In addition, three universities in the state have also achieved the prestigious UGC Grade-1 category.
