Actor-turned-politician Vijay is set to take oath as the 9th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, May 10, in what is being described as a historic political moment for the state.
Vijay will be sworn in as Tamil Nadu’s 9th Chief Minister on Sunday, May 10, at 10 am in Chennai, following his TVK party’s win of 108 seats and subsequent coalition support reaching 120 MLAs.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 10 am at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.
Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), created history in its debut Assembly election by winning 108 seats and emerging as the single largest party in the state.
Although TVK fell short of the majority mark on its own in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, the party later secured support from several alliance partners and independent parties.
The majority mark required to form the government is 118 seats, while TVK now reportedly enjoys the support of 120 MLAs.
The supporting parties include:
- Indian National Congress with 5 MLAs
- Communist Party of India (CPI) with 2 MLAs
- Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) with 2 MLAs
- Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) with 2 MLAs
- Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) with 2 MLAs
