India is currently experiencing intense summer conditions, with maximum temperatures rising sharply across most parts of the country. According to the India Meteorological Department, temperatures on April 26 ranged between 40°C and 46°C in many regions, except parts of the western Himalayan belt and northeastern areas where it remained comparatively lower.
India faces intense heatwaves, with temperatures reaching 46.9°C in Akola, primarily affecting northwest and central regions until after April 28, followed by a gradual fall. Meanwhile, parts of northeast and east India are expected to receive rainfall and thunderstorms.
The highest temperature recorded in the country was a scorching 46.9°C in Akola, highlighting the severity of the ongoing heatwave.
Heatwave to Continue for Next Few Days
The IMD has warned that heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to continue across parts of northwest and central India for the next three days. After this period, there may be some gradual relief as temperatures are expected to slightly decrease.

Regions including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat are among those most affected by extreme heat.
Rain and Thunderstorms to Bring Relief in Some Areas
While large parts of India are battling extreme heat, several regions are expected to see rainfall and thunderstorms in the coming days.

Fairly widespread rainfall, along with lightning and gusty winds, is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and northeast India throughout the week. Some areas may even experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Thunderstorm activity is also expected across east India, central India, and parts of south peninsular India, which could bring temporary relief from the intense heat.
Weather Conditions Across Different Regions
Northwest India
Light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds, is expected in areas like Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand over the next few days. Some parts may also witness hailstorms.
Northeast India
Northeast states are likely to receive widespread rainfall with thunderstorms and strong winds. Heavy rainfall is expected in states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, with chances of very heavy rain in some areas.
East India
States like West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha may experience thunderstorms, gusty winds, and occasional heavy rainfall. Some areas may also witness strong winds reaching up to 70 kmph.
Central India
Parts of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha are likely to see isolated rainfall with thunderstorms over the next few days.
South India
Southern states including Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, and coastal Andhra Pradesh may experience light to moderate rainfall. Kerala and Mahe could also see heavy rainfall towards the end of the week.
West India
Some areas in Maharashtra may receive light rainfall and thunderstorms, offering brief relief from the heat.
Temperature Trends in Coming Days
The IMD has predicted that temperatures will remain high in the short term but may gradually fall by 2-5°C in several regions towards the end of April.
Northwest, central, and eastern parts of India are expected to see a slight drop in temperatures after April 28-30, while a similar trend is likely in Maharashtra and Gujarat in the following days.
Heatwave and Hot Weather Warnings
The IMD has issued heatwave warnings for several regions, including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and parts of central India.
In addition to heatwaves, hot and humid conditions are expected in coastal regions such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
Warm night conditions, where temperatures remain high even after sunset, are also likely in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and central India, adding to discomfort.

With both extreme heat and unstable weather conditions expected across different parts of the country, residents are advised to stay cautious. While some areas may get temporary relief through rainfall, the heatwave is likely to continue in many regions for now.
