A BJP MP has triggered a controversy after asking whether “pure petrol” would come from “someone’s father’s house.”

Speaking at an event in Rewa in Madhya Pradesh, BJP MP Janardan Mishra was defending the government’s ethanol-blending policy.

BJP MP Janardan Mishra defended the E20 ethanol-blending policy in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, referencing Brazil’s 100% ethanol use and questioning opponents amidst India’s oil import dependence; Congress criticized the remarks.

Will Pure Petrol Come From Your Father s House BJP MP Mishra Defends E20 Policy

“…India produces 20 per cent of its oil domestically, while 80 per cent has been sourced from abroad. On top of that, there is a conflict going on at present, the Strait of Hormuz is closed, and the Houthis have also blocked it, so oil is being obtained after travelling an additional 18,000 kilometres.

And when Prime Minister Modi kept saying that 20 per cent ethanol should be blended, protests are taking place, saying that ethanol should not be used and only pure petrol should be used. Will pure petrol come from your father’s house…” the IANS quoted him as saying.

Mishra then pointed out the example of countries including Brazil where vehicles run on 100 per cent ethanol.

He added, “Brazil is the world’s largest producer of ethanol. Vehicles there run on 100 per cent ethanol without facing any issues. Automobile experts and mechanics acknowledge that ethanol does not damage vehicle engines, yet it faces unnecessary opposition in India.”

Meanwhile, the Congress has slammed the BJP leader’s controversial remarks.

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate said, “This is BJP MP Janardan Mishra from Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. People’s vehicles are getting ruined due to E20, but listen to his arrogance.”

However, this is not the first time where Mishra has put the BJP in an embarrassing situation.

At a water conservation workshop in 2022, he had said as per The Print: “Lands are running dry of water, it must be saved… Drink alcohol, chew tobacco, smoke weed or smell thinner and solution but understand the importance of water.”
