The girl was taken to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, where she is undergoing treatment.

A six-year-old girl is hospitalized in critical condition at PGIMER Chandigarh after an alleged assault by an eight-year-old boy in a Panchkula classroom occurred on Wednesday. Police confirmed the children’s ages on October 30, 2026, and are investigating the circumstances.
The incident came to light after a purported video of the assault began circulating on social media. The footage appears to show the boy attacking the younger child inside the classroom, raising serious concerns about student safety on school premises.
Police confirmed the ages of both children on Friday, October 30, 2026, and said an investigation was underway. Authorities are also questioning the school management to establish how the incident took place.
What Happened Inside The Panchkula School?
According to the information provided by the police, the entire episode occurred within the classroom on Wednesday.
An alleged video that is making rounds in the internet portrays the eight-year-old boy assaulting the six-year-old girl by pulling her by her hair and continuously hitting her head against the desk.
The video also captures the girl being thrown to the ground, after which she is kicked and dragged by the boy. She is also struck with something that looks like a brick by him. Blood oozes out from the girl.
The girl was severely injured and sent to PGIMER in Chandigarh for treatment. According to the police, she is still undergoing treatment.
It is part of the broader investigation into the authenticity of the entire video footage.
Police Conduct Medical Assessment Of The 8-Year-Old Boy
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amrinder Singh confirmed that the boy involved in the incident is eight years old, while the injured girl is six.
When asked about the possible reason behind the assault, the officer said the boy was undergoing a medical assessment.
Singh explained that children between the ages of seven and 12 undergo such assessments in cases of this nature. Further action will depend on the findings of the assessment.
The assessment is important because the legal position of a child accused of an offence depends on the child’s age and, in certain cases, an evaluation of their understanding and maturity.
Police Question School Authorities
The police are also questioning the school authorities to understand how the assault occurred inside the classroom.
Investigators are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish whether adequate supervision was available when the children were in the classroom.
The investigation will also look into the school’s response after the girl was injured and the steps taken to arrange medical assistance.
Meanwhile, the girl’s condition and treatment at PGIMER remain a key concern as the police continue their inquiry.
