To take down abusive post against the Prime Minister of India and security forces, the Delhi Police on Wednesday issued notices to several social media accounts. The legal notices were served to many individuals, independent journalists and some media houses for posting and sharing abusive and humiliating posts.
According to the reports, notices have been issued to X accounts by the police seeking information about individuals. Though, the exact number of people served notices is unclear for now, but it was learned that police has started a massive drive to deal with abusive posts.
On Wednesday, Delhi Police issued legal notices to social media accounts, journalists, and media houses for posting abusive content against the Prime Minister and security forces, and removed accounts circulating fake narratives or violence-related videos.
Police officials have scrutinised posts, videos and comments across multiple social media platforms violating IT laws and are provocative.
Media reports earlier claimed that Delhi Police had identified over 400 social media handles allegedly linked to Pakistan, which were circulating fake narratives and altered videos.
Many social media accounts circulating videos of violence linked to the July 20 ‘Sansad Chalo’ march were striked down by police.
Delhi Police’s IT teams are continuously monitoring social media platforms to identify objectionable posts, videos and remarks, upon which, legal notices are being issued to the respective social media accounts owners.
