Cosmetic surgery aimed at making the penis look bigger has led to a tragedy following the death of British-Nigerian socialite and businessman Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo who passed away after getting his penis filled with a substance in Thailand.
British-Nigerian businessman Igho Ubiribo died on March 6 after receiving a penile filler procedure in Bangkok, where approximately 40ml of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine were injected; an inquest found his death consistent with a pulmonary embolism linked to the cosmetic treatment.
Ubiribo, 43, got the penile filler surgery in Bangkok when he was with his wife in March. The evidence produced in the course of an inquest held in Inner West London Coroner’s Court revealed that some 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine were injected into the victim’s penis.
What Happened To Igho Ubiribo?
It was in Bangkok, when Ubiribo underwent the penile filler procedure, but after the treatment he was reportedly having a massage with his wife when he complained of chest pain. He then fainted twice.
Ubiribo was taken to Sukhumvit Hospital, where doctors reportedly suspected a pulmonary embolism, a potentially life-threatening condition in which a blood clot or other material blocks blood flow in the lungs.
Doctors recommended a CT scan to investigate the problem. However, Ubiribo lost consciousness before the scan could be completed and was later moved to intensive care.
Medical staff reportedly performed CPR for more than 100 minutes, but he died in the early hours of March 6.
Postmortem Found Hyaluronic Acid In His Lungs
A postmortem examination carried out in the UK found cellular material in Ubiribo’s lungs that was consistent with the hyaluronic acid used during the penile filler procedure.
The findings were considered consistent with a pulmonary embolism. Evidence presented at the inquest linked the fatal complication to the cosmetic treatment.
Understanding Penile Fillers?
Penile fillers are injectable cosmetic treatments designed mainly to increase the thickness of the penis.
The filler is injected beneath the skin to create additional volume. Hyaluronic acid is one substance that may be used because it is naturally present in the human body and is already widely used in cosmetic procedures.
However, being a substance found naturally in the body does not make every injection automatically safe. The safety of a filler depends on factors including the substance used, how it is prepared, where it is injected and whether the procedure is performed by a properly trained medical professional.

While severe complications are less common, Ubiribo’s case highlights why injectable cosmetic procedures should not be treated as risk-free simply because they are marketed as minimally invasive.
