The much awaited Lalbaugcha Raja 2026 idol was unveiled in Mumbai on Friday, September 11, at 7 pm, giving devotees their first look at this year’s Ganpati idol ahead of Ganeshotsav.
The annual unveiling is eagerly awaited by devotees, who look forward to seeing how the iconic Mumbai Ganpati has been presented for the year’s celebrations. With Ganesh Chaturthi falling on September 14, the unveiling has taken place just three days before the main festival.
The Lalbaugcha Raja 2026 idol was unveiled in Mumbai on September 11, ahead of Ganeshotsav on September 14. The Mandal, established in 1934, is known for its annual celebrations and extensive social and educational activities.
An X post by the account Bhagavad Gita claimed that this year’s Lalbaugcha Raja has a Mahadev theme. The claim is based on the social media post and should be distinguished from an official announcement by the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal.
93 years of Lalbaugcha Raja
Lalbaugcha Raja has grown into much more than a Ganpati idol. For generations of Mumbaikars and devotees from across the country, it has become closely associated with faith, tradition, artistry and the city’s festive spirit.
The Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal has been organising the public Ganeshotsav since 1934. The celebrations have now entered their 93rd year.
Every year, lakhs of devotees from different walks of life gather at Lalbaug for darshan of the Raja during the Ganesh festival.
The annual celebrations have consequently become one of the major attractions of Mumbai’s Ganeshotsav, with the idol drawing large crowds throughout the festival.

The mandal’s work is not limited to the annual Ganesh festival. According to information available on its official website, it has been involved in social and educational activities since 1934, with several initiatives aimed at helping underprivileged sections of society.
Its work includes educational facilities and scholarships, along with guidance and classes for competitive examinations. The organisation also conducts English speaking courses and other community focused programmes.
The mandal runs Lalbaugcha Raja Prabodhini, which includes the Sane Guruji Abhyasika, Swatantryaveer Savarkar Library and Sant Dnyaneshwar Reference Book Bank.
Healthcare is another area covered by its social initiatives. The mandal also operates the Lalbaugcha Raja Dialysis Centre.
The organisation says its wider social work is aimed at supporting people in need while bringing the community together through its annual Ganeshotsav celebrations.
Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations begin on September 14
With Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14, preparations for this year’s celebrations have entered the final stage.
