The woman rider who was involved in the Gurugram Golf Course Road accident has spoken about the incident, saying she felt unsafe as the occupants of the car allegedly followed and tried to pull up alongside her before the crash.

Sia said the incident left her particularly concerned about the safety of women riding alone on Delhi and Gurugram roads.

Gurugram Police added an attempt-to-murder charge against Kalyan Bainsla following a Golf Course Road incident where a woman biker alleged a car chased and hit her, while Bainsla claims the motorcycle hit his car due to erratic riding.

“My first thought as a female rider was that I did not feel safe at all on the Delhi and Gurugram roads that day. Even though there were fellow riders around me, I felt that if I were to head out alone on my bike, I would have to think twice,” she said.

Sia also questioned the explanation given by those involved in the incident. According to her, video footage shows the car hitting a rider before leaving the spot.

“I do not understand how they can justify their actions to the media. The video clearly shows them hitting someone and fleeing,” she said.

She added that another fellow rider allegedly caught up with the car and asked the occupants to stop. However, she claimed they continued to insist that the incident was not their fault before speeding away through a gap on the left.

Recalling the moments before the crash, Sia said she first noticed the car at an underpass when it passed her at high speed. “The car zoomed past me at high speed. Then the car slowed down and drifted slightly closer behind me, but I still did not pay much attention,” she said.

She said she became alarmed when the car later pulled up alongside her, the occupants rolled down the window and began speaking to her. “They started inching the car closer to me, and they were gesturing for me to stop. I was terrified,” Sia said.

She alleged that the occupants appeared to be intoxicated and pointed out that the car had heavily tinted or blacked-out windows. These claims have not been independently verified.

Sia further alleged that the car was deliberately trying to catch up with her. “They intentionally chased me. Whatever speed I was maintaining, they were driving much faster, trying to close the gap and get right next to me,” she said.

She also rejected the claim that the crash was simply the result of losing balance or making a mistake. “They claim they lost their balance or made a mistake. How can you just say it was a mistake?” Sia said, pointing to the video footage.

According to her, the footage shows the car moving from the first lane towards the third lane, hitting the rider and then leaving the scene.

Sia said the occupants should have stopped immediately after the collision and taken responsibility for what had happened.

“If it were your fault, you should have stopped. It was your responsibility to check,” she said, adding that the incident should be treated seriously by the authorities.

Sia also said she was fortunate to have been wearing protective riding gear. “It is a good thing I was wearing my protective gear. We have seen in previous cases how bikers die instantly in such accidents, so this is a very serious matter,” she said.

Meanwhile, Gurugram Police on Tuesday added an attempt-to-murder charge against Kalyan Bainsla, a resident of Tikri Gurjar village in Palwal, in connection with the alleged hit-and-run involving a woman biker on Golf Course Road, following an analysis of CCTV footage of the incident.

Speaking to the media over the phone on Monday night, Bainsla said the motorcycle collided with the side of his car while attempting to overtake him. He said he was driving on Golf Course Road in Gurugram when the incident took place.

Bainsla also claimed that several bikers had been repeatedly manoeuvring around his car for nearly 10 minutes. According to him, the riders were moving between the front and rear of his vehicle and riding erratically.

He said he had even extended his hand outside the car window to signal one of the riders to slow down and ride carefully. Bainsla added that he is a bike enthusiast himself but was irritated by the riders’ behaviour at the time.

According to Bainsla, he subsequently tried to accelerate past the bikers. He claimed that while he was attempting to make a turn, one of the motorcycles collided with the side of his car.

Bainsla, who runs a gym in Palwal and is a former national-level kabaddi player, maintained that although his car collided with the motorcycle, he had no intention of harming anyone. He also said he later came to know that the person riding the motorcycle was a woman and expressed regret over the incident.

On being questioned about leaving the scene after the collision, Bainsla said he stopped his car at a red light shortly after the incident.

He claimed that his elder brother advised him not to remain at the spot as he feared the situation could turn into a physical altercation. Bainsla said he subsequently drove away.

His family members have also supported his account. According to them, Bainsla’s sister and his aunt’s son were also travelling in the car when the incident occurred. They claimed that the bikers had been riding around the vehicle in an erratic manner for some time.

Bainsla also claimed that he had spoken to the DSP and presented his version of events. He expressed frustration over being portrayed as a major criminal and said that no police case had previously been registered against him. He highlighted that he runs a gym, trains children and had represented the country at the national level in kabaddi.

Bainsla said he had taken the car to Gurugram from a soldier friend.

The soldier’s uncle, Kartar Gurjar, distanced himself and his family from the incident.

“We have nothing to do with this incident. Kalyan had borrowed the car. The police have visited our home and are conducting continuous inquiries. We are ready to extend all possible cooperation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Roshan Chauhan, the father of biker Sia, has urged the police to include a charge of attempted murder in the FIR.

Chauhan visited the Gurugram Sector 56 police station and submitted a written complaint following the incident.

He alleged that his daughter had asked the occupants of the car to maintain a safe distance. According to him, the road was wide enough for the car to maintain a gap and safely pass the motorcycle.

Chauhan said his daughter was left shaken by the incident. He described her as an educated and confident woman who is capable of standing up for her rights.

He said Sia is a graduate and has completed a course in fashion design. He also said she has been involved in social work and had previously contested the municipal corporation elections from Kalkaji on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket.
