Oscar-winning music composer A. R. Rahman delivered a grand performance at the 250th anniversary celebrations of the United States Independence Day held in New Delhi on May 24.
On May 24 in New Delhi, A. R. Rahman performed at the US Embassy’s 250th US Independence Day celebration, attended by dignitaries including S. Jaishankar and Marco Rubio, underscoring growing India-US diplomatic and cultural ties.
The special event was organised by the Embassy of the United States, New Delhi and brought together senior diplomats, political leaders, business representatives, and cultural personalities from both countries.
The evening highlighted the growing partnership between India and the United States across diplomacy, culture, and strategic cooperation.
AR Rahman’s ‘Jai Ho’ Performance Becomes Highlight Of The Evening
One of the biggest highlights of the celebration was Rahman’s energetic performance of his globally popular anthem Jai Ho.

The audience responded enthusiastically as the composer performed the award-winning track, which gained worldwide fame after the success of Slumdog Millionaire.
Rahman also entertained guests with a medley of some of his most loved songs, including Dil Se Re, Muqabla, and Fanaa.
The musical performance added a vibrant cultural touch to the diplomatic gathering.

Event Marks 250 Years Of US Independence
The celebration commemorated 250 years since the United States declared independence from Britain on July 4, 1776.
The event in Delhi was part of a broader series of commemorative programmes being organised internationally to mark the historic milestone.
Guests at the event included senior government officials, diplomats, business leaders, and cultural figures from both India and the United States.
Senior Leaders Attend The Celebration
Among the prominent attendees were S. Jaishankar, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and US Ambassador Sergio Gor.
During the event, Ambassador Sergio Gor emphasised the importance of India-US relations and spoke about expanding cooperation between the two countries.
He stated that “America First does not mean America alone” and highlighted efforts by the US Embassy to identify opportunities beneficial for both nations.
According to him, the embassy recently brought a record-breaking delegation to India and plans to continue strengthening ties in the coming months.
Marco Rubio On Four-Day India Visit
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is currently on a four-day official visit to India.
His visit includes participation in the upcoming Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting scheduled to take place in New Delhi on May 26.
The Quad grouping includes India, the United States, Australia, and Japan.
The meeting will focus on key regional and global developments, particularly the evolving security situation in the Indo-Pacific region and rising tensions in West Asia.
Cultural Diplomacy Strengthens India-US Relations
The Delhi celebration once again showcased how cultural events continue to play an important role in strengthening diplomatic relations between India and the United States.
AR Rahman’s performance added warmth and emotional connection to the occasion, blending music with diplomacy during a major international celebration.
The presence of top political leaders alongside cultural icons also reflected the growing importance of people-to-people ties in the India-US partnership.
