Russia Eyes Joint Aircraft Production in India

On Russia’s reported push for a major aircraft deal in India involving 105 planes, Alina Singh (Doskanova), Deputy Director of Russia’s Skill Development Agency, said the potential partnership could open a new chapter in India-Russia economic cooperation. She said the deal could lead to joint technology development, new products and the growth of a new economic sector in India, creating opportunities for businesses as well as workers. Highlighting India’s large population and the resulting demand for skilled manpower, Singh said large-scale aircraft production would require a substantial skilled workforce. “I think it is a great perspective… It means that we will start doing technology together, we are going to have hope for joint products. It means that new, great sector of economy is coming to India,” she said, calling the development “really great news for both countries” that could bring India and Russia closer at multiple levels.

I urge BRICS member states and partner countries to open their markets while working together to simplify regulatory procedures and facilitate faster clearance of consignments.”

ASSOCHAM President Nirmal K Minda says, “First of all, fabulous inauguration with the presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and all the dignitaries and ministers from Russia. As we have discussed already, there are multiple sectors where we can grow together. Today, so far, we have reached and crossed 1 trillion in trade, and I feel this should go to 4-5 trillion in the coming years. There are different sectors like AI, semiconductors, digitisation, aluminium, automobiles, agriculture and software. Each country has its own strengths, and we must utilise them, find ways to support each other based on our competencies, cost competitiveness and availability, wherever there is a market, and try to achieve neutral or surplus trade depending on our competencies.”
