The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across several parts of Karnataka till June 11 as the southwest monsoon advances further into the state. Bengaluru is also likely to receive more rain in the coming days, with conditions remaining favourable for further monsoon progress over Karnataka.

According to the IMD’s latest weather bulletin issued on June 5, the southwest monsoon has advanced into more parts of Karnataka, while the Northern Limit of Monsoon currently passes through Bengaluru. The weather agency said conditions are favourable for the monsoon to advance further into more parts of the state over the next two to three days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rainfall across Karnataka, including Bengaluru, until June 11 due to the southwest monsoon’s advance, warning of thunderstorms and gusty winds.

IMD Warns of Heavy Rain Till June 11 As Monsoon Advances Bengaluru Likely To See More Rain

The IMD has predicted widespread rainfall over Coastal Karnataka and fairly widespread rainfall over parts of Interior Karnataka during the forecast period. Heavy rainfall is likely over North Interior Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka from June 5 to June 11, while Coastal Karnataka is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during the same period.

The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in several districts. Wind speeds of up to 50 kmph are likely in parts of North Interior Karnataka, while South Interior Karnataka could experience thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching up to 40 kmph.

Bengaluru, which falls under South Interior Karnataka, is expected to witness intermittent rain activity as monsoon conditions strengthen across the region. The city has already experienced pre-monsoon showers over the past few weeks, bringing relief from rising temperatures.

The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious during periods of intense rainfall as waterlogging, traffic congestion and reduced visibility may occur in urban areas. The department noted that heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding of roads, increased travel time and temporary disruption of traffic movement.

The forecast comes as several parts of Karnataka continue to receive monsoon showers. Coastal Karnataka recorded heavy rainfall on June 5, with Mangaluru’s Bajpe station receiving 9 cm of rain during the observation period, according to IMD data.

With the monsoon steadily advancing and rain activity expected to intensify over the next week, residents in Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka can expect wet weather conditions to continue through June 11.
