As the city continues its rapid vertical expansion, the challenge of powering thousands of apartment units sustainably is moving to the forefront of the urban planning conversation. On April 25, the fourth installment of the “Science for Sustainable Urban Living” series will convene at the Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museum to address this transition.
The event, a collaborative initiative between the Bengaluru Science and Technology Cluster (BeST)-an office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India initiative-and the Bangalore Apartments’ Federation (BAF), aims to provide high-rise residents with a roadmap for integrating solar energy and Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure.
Bengaluru’s BeST Cluster and BAF are hosting the Science for Sustainable Urban Living series on April 25, 2026, at the Visvesvaraya Museum to provide a roadmap for integrating solar energy and EV infrastructure in apartment buildings, linking policy with practical implementation.
Bridging Policy and Practice
The session features a robust lineup of speakers designed to bridge the gap between high-level government policy and grassroots implementation.
Mr. Asit Singh, Member Secretary of the Southern Regional Power Committee and Director General (Additional Charge) of the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), will deliver the keynote address. His presentation is expected to provide a macro view of India’s shifting power landscape and how residential clusters fit into the national energy strategy.
A moderated panel discussion will follow, featuring representatives from across the energy spectrum:
Regulators: Shri. Srinivasappa (KERC) and Smt. Uma H M (BESCOM) will discuss the regulatory frameworks and utility support for decentralized energy.
Academia: Prof. Monto Mani from the IISc Centre for Sustainable Technologies will offer scientific perspectives on sustainable building integration.
Industry & Community: Experts from Sun-AP Ecopower, Chubb Systems, and the MG Institute of Rural Energy will tackle the technical hurdles of solar adoption and EV charging in shared residential spaces.
Beyond Theory: Interactive Exhibits and Flash Talks
Recognizing that urban residents often face “analysis paralysis” when choosing green technologies, the organizers have included Flash Presentations from CSTEP and the LVBL Accelerator to provide quick, data-driven insights into green mobility.
Attendees will also have access to interactive exhibits showcasing the latest in solar and EV infrastructure. These displays are intended to move the conversation from abstract environmental goals to tangible, installable hardware for apartment committees.
A Growing Momentum for Urban Sustainability
This upcoming session marks the two-thirds point of a six-month series that has already tackled critical issues such as Urban Mobility (March) and Water Security (February).
Since its launch in January 2026, the series has served as a unique platform where citizen groups like BAF can interact directly with scientists and policymakers. By focusing on “Science for Sustainable Urban Living,” the BeST Cluster aims to ensure that the solutions implemented in Bengaluru’s neighborhoods are backed by rigorous research and scalable technology.
