Bengaluru Metro’s 7.5-km elevated Pink Line stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere has cleared a three-day safety inspection, bringing it closer to opening for passengers. However, commuters will have to wait until Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) meets the safety requirements and receives final approval to start services.
V. Venkatasubramanian, Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), Southern Circle, completed the inspection on October 8. The checks covered the elevated tracks, stations, Kothanur Depot, train trials and the Operations Control Centre (OCC).
Bengaluru Metro’s 7.5-km elevated Pink Line stretch from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere completed a three-day safety inspection ending October 8. BMRCL must still meet final safety conditions and receive approval before opening the section, which includes six stations.

The inspection was held from October 6 to 8 along the elevated stretch on Bannerghatta Road.
On October 6, officials checked the mainline and related infrastructure using a motor trolley. The next day, they inspected the line and Kothanur Depot and carried out train trials. On October 8, the team checked the Operations Control Centre at Baiyappanahalli.
The stretch has six stations: Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIM Bangalore, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital and Tavarekere.
Jayadeva Hospital station will be an interchange with the existing Metro network, allowing passengers to switch between lines.
BMRCL had completed several technical checks before the safety inspection. The Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) issued the speed certificate in August 2026. The Railway Board later granted provisional sanction for the trains, while the signalling system received certification from the Independent Safety Assessor (ISA).
The CMRS inspection was another key step before the line can open to the public. But the completion of the inspection does not mean passenger services can begin immediately.
BMRCL must address the observations and meet the conditions set by the safety commissioner before receiving the final authorisation to operate the section.
The opening of the elevated Pink Line stretch will increase Bengaluru Metro’s operational network from 96.10 km to 103.60 km.
The new section is expected to make Metro travel more accessible for people living along Bannerghatta Road and in nearby neighbourhoods. The interchange at Jayadeva Hospital will also give commuters another connection to the wider Metro network.
When the section will open for passengers depends on BMRCL completing the remaining safety requirements and receiving the necessary approval.
