Gold prices in Chennai opened on a steady note on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, with marginal variations across leading jewellery retailers, even as broader Tamil Nadu rates indicated stable demand in the domestic bullion market.

According to the latest morning update (08:45 AM IST), 24-carat gold in Tamil Nadu was priced at ₹15,231 per gram, while 22-carat gold stood at ₹13,962 per gram. Lower purities followed the same trend, with 18-carat gold at ₹11,423 per gram and 14-carat gold at ₹8,885 per gram. Silver prices remained firm as well, with 999 fine silver quoted at ₹244 per gram.

Gold prices in Chennai jewellery stores remained firm on Tuesday, with 22-carat gold between ₹14,090-₹14,230 per gram, reflecting global uncertainty and demand, while silver averaged ₹270 per gram across most outlets.

Jeweller 24K Gold (₹) 22K Gold (₹) 18K Gold (₹) Silver (₹)
GRT Jewellers 15,311 14,025 11,483 265
Lalitha Jewellery – 14,025 – 265
Saravana Stores Elite – 14,020 11,480 –

D.A.R Jewellery 15,530 (bar) 14,025 11,483 223-248

Among the prominent retailers, 22-carat gold – the most widely purchased purity for jewellery – hovered largely in the ₹14,020-₹14,100 per gram range. Stores such as GRT Jewellers, Lalitha Jewellery and D.A.R Jewellery quoted ₹14,025 per gram, while slightly higher rates were seen at Jeyachandran Gold House and Swarna Maligai at ₹14,100 per gram.

For 24-carat gold, typically bought for investment purposes, prices ranged between ₹15,311 and ₹15,530 per gram depending on the form and retailer. Notably, gold bars commanded a premium compared to standard jewellery rates.

Silver prices across Chennai’s leading jewellers were largely uniform at ₹265 per gram, although some outlets such as D.A.R Jewellery offered slightly lower entry points for different grades.

Metal Purity 1 Gram (₹) 10 Gram (₹) 100 Gram (₹)
Gold 24 Karat 15,231 1,52,310 15,23,100
Gold 22 Karat 13,962 1,39,618 13,96,175
Gold 18 Karat 11,423 1,14,233 11,42,325
Silver 999 Fine 244 2,437 24,371

Market observers note that the narrow price band across retailers suggests stable supply conditions, with no significant volatility in international bullion markets impacting local pricing at the moment.

However, minor differences between jewellers typically arise due to making charges, logistics, and inventory sourcing.

With the wedding season continuing in parts of South India, demand for 22-carat gold jewellery remains resilient, keeping prices supported despite limited global cues. Investors, meanwhile, continue to track 24-carat gold for long-term holdings amid ongoing macroeconomic uncertainties.

Overall, Chennai’s gold market reflects a steady trend today, with prices holding firm across major jewellery chains and limited intra-day fluctuations expected unless global triggers emerge.
