A massive blaze at the Pallikaranai dump yard vehicle lot destroyed more than 100 parked vehicles and sent thick smoke over nearby areas. Officials reported no deaths or injuries, but confirmed heavy property loss and damage to large sections of the storage space.

Smoke from the Pallikaranai dump yard fire spread over surrounding residential and commercial zones, including parts of the Medavakkam–Velachery corridor. Drivers reported poor visibility and traffic slowed sharply, as emergency vehicles moved through the area and crews attempted to contain the situation.

A major fire at the Pallikaranai dump yard near the Medavakkam–Velachery corridor destroyed over 100 parked vehicles and caused significant property loss. Although no injuries were reported, the resulting smoke impacted visibility, leading to an investigation into the incident and safety concerns.

Witness accounts described how the Pallikaranai dump yard fire intensified around tightly parked vehicles, which were stored near heaps of waste. “Within minutes, several rows of vehicles were engulfed in flames,” an official said, adding that many of the automobiles were reduced to charred shells as the fire intensified.

Authorities said highly flammable refuse at the dump yard helped the Pallikaranai dump yard fire spread quickly among vehicles. Fire and Rescue Services teams reached the spot with several fire tenders, while water tankers ringed the zone to stop flames from advancing towards other sections and parked vehicles.

Firefighters continued operations at the Pallikaranai dump yard fire for several hours, concentrating on shielding untouched parts of the dump and storage yard. Officials later started calculating exact losses from the damaged vehicles, while also documenting the extent of destruction across the affected waste heaps.

Authorities have opened an investigation into the Pallikaranai dump yard fire and are still trying to identify what triggered the blaze among the vehicles and trash piles. The incident has renewed long-standing concerns, as the dump yard has seen many previous fires and repeated questions about waste handling and fire safety systems.
