Chennai may get a brief break from the overnight downpour before another spell of rain arrives, according to updates from Tamil Nadu Weatherman and Chennai Rains bloggers. While the rain bands have shifted towards the Ponneri-Pulicat belt, rainfall activity is expected to increase again over Chennai and its suburbs from tonight through Wednesday morning.
Weather blogger R Pradeep John (Tamil Nadu Weatherman) said rainfall activity across Chennai was likely to ease during the day, with sunshine possible between isolated spells of rain. However, moderate to heavy rainfall could return during the night and early morning hours, although the intensity was unlikely to match the previous night’s downpour.
Following heavy overnight downpours (Meenambakkam: 120.3mm, Nungambakkam: 107.2mm), Chennai anticipates a temporary lull before more rain, with schools closed Wednesday in four districts and southern regions on alert.

Chennai Rains blogger also said the storms that brought rain to Chennai and its suburbs earlier in the day had moved inland. These systems could bring light to moderate rainfall to interior Tamil Nadu areas west of Chennai, while the city may experience a temporary break with occasional showers over the next few hours. The blogger added that parts of south coastal Tamil Nadu and the Delta region could begin receiving spells of rain in the coming hours.
